“One of the things that gives us joy, is seeing some of our survivors give birth to their children in our safe home. It makes us feel fulfilled that we are able to support them through their healing and child bearing process.” Francisca said as the organization evaluated the impact of the Survivors Network Africa safe home in Kumba, South West region of Cameroon.

Survivors of human trafficking or modern day slavery sometimes lack shelter and the means to get back on their feet as their abusers or offenders often leave them with nothing. “We were fortunate to have some babies born at the safe space whose parents were survivors. Though the circumstances surrounding the birth some of these children were not very comfortable, given that some gave birth in the shelter at night without the help of a midwife or a medical doctor. But, thanks to the timely intervention of our security guard and Doctors Without Borders (a medical organization with an ambulance service) who arrived on time helped some of them receive their babies before they were rushed to the hospital for proper medical attention. From April 2021 till date, we have received twenty seven (27) new babies including a set of twins who were delivered from the safe home.” Francisca said.
